Bucana Bridge Now Open for Public Use for Car-free Sundays

Davao City is doubling down on its commitment to health, fitness, and community well-being with more space, more movement, and fewer excuses to stay sedentary.

The Davao City Sports Development Office (SDD) has officially extended the Car-Free Sunday (CFS) route up to Bucana Bridge. The inclusion of Bucana Bridge enhances the overall CFS experience by introducing a wider and more scenic route. This development supports the city’s broader initiative to promote healthier lifestyles by encouraging residents to engage in regular physical activity within a secure, vehicle-free setting.

The extended route is open every Sunday from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM, offering a safe and accessible environment for walking, jogging, cycling, and other forms of exercise.

Route Access and Traffic Guidelines

To ensure orderly movement and safety during Car-Free Sundays, the following guidelines are implemented:

  • The Tulip Area serves as the designated entry point to Bucana Bridge
  • The Roxas Coastal Road remains closed during CFS hours

These measures are intended to manage crowd flow and maintain a safe environment for all participants.

Promoting Shared Responsibility and Safety

With the increasing number of participants, the SDD emphasizes the importance of responsible use of shared public spaces. All individuals are encouraged to:

  • Exercise caution and be mindful of others on the road
  • Follow designated lanes and pedestrian crossings
  • Avoid behaviors that may lead to accidents or injuries
  • Maintain cleanliness in the area

Respect and cooperation among users are essential in sustaining the success of the Car-Free Sunday program.

Supporting a Healthier Davao City

The expansion of the Car-Free Sunday route reflects the city’s ongoing efforts to create inclusive and accessible opportunities for wellness. By providing more open spaces dedicated to physical activity, Davao City fosters a culture that values health, community engagement, and responsible urban living.

As participation continues to grow, Dabawenyos are encouraged to take full advantage of this initiative while contributing to a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all.
