Davao Region’s economy sustained its upward trajectory in 2024, with all its provinces and the Highly Urbanized City (HUC) of Davao registering positive economic growth from their 2023 levels, according to the latest results of the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Among the component economies, the City of Davao recorded the fastest growth at 7.9 percent, outpacing the regional economic growth rate of 6.3 percent. This was followed by Davao del Norte (5.4%), Davao del Sur (4.9%), Davao Oriental (4.0%), Davao Occidental (3.9%), and Davao de Oro (3.1%).
“The broad-based expansion across all provinces and the highly urbanized city reflects the region’s continued economic resilience and recovery momentum,” PSA Region XI said.
Services Sector Drives Regional Economies
In terms of economic structure, all economies in Davao Region remained Services-based, underscoring the sector’s dominant role in driving growth and employment.
Services accounted for the largest share of the total economic output in each local economy as follows:
- Davao de Oro – 45.4%
- Davao del Norte – 51.8%
- Davao del Sur – 46.9%
- Davao Occidental – 50.3%
- Davao Oriental – 63.8%
- City of Davao – 70.3%
The Services sector encompasses a wide range of industries, including:
Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles; Transportation and storage; Accommodation and food service activities; Information and communication; Financial and insurance activities; Real estate and ownership of dwellings; Professional and business services; Public administration and defense; compulsory social security; Education; Human health and social work activities; and Other services.
